artist and art educator
Welcome!
I am currently a CPS art teacher and love what I do, which is to inspire children to use their imagination to form ideas and make those ideas into reality. Prior to teaching, I graduated from Columbia College with a Bachelor's degree in Art & Design and worked as a web designer for an ad agency. As the company grew, I started teaching animation programs to the production staff and became a senior designer working on large scale websites while continuously giving direction to fellow junior designers. After several years of designing, I took time off from work and started a family. I became a parent volunteer and assisted the art and computer teacher where my children went to school. I admired how the art teacher taught and she was my inspiration to become a teacher. Then, I decided to continue my education and get my Master of Arts in Teaching degree at Columbia College. As an experienced advertising designer, I have the ability to develop creative and intriguing, student centered lessons which seamlessly integrates the core subjects. I have been told I have a talent of presenting inventive, yet challenging lessons to my students. My lessons focuses on teaching to critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration and developing their creativity while using the technologies we have available today. I'm also a continuing education student, taking classes in jewelry and watercolor painting. I continue to take classes so I can build my personal art portfolio, be in the company of other artists to share ideas and learn new techniques. Besides art, I enjoy gardening, cooking, expanding my book collection, and traveling with my family. Thank you for visiting! I hope you enjoy the website and don't forget to check out my student's work. |
At Peterson Elementary teaching kindergartners about castles, who resided in them, why they were built, what they were made of and where they can be found. We discussed the parts of the castles (i.e. moat, keep, bailey, tower). Then I demonstrated how to combine simple shapes to create their own castle drawings.
At Northside College Prep with my talented digital imaging class. I taught lessons that incorporated typography, branding, and conceptual design. Students designed a music CD cover, worked on a logo design for the new school's cafeteria and developed two animations using Adobe Photoshop and Flash.
