Middle school lesson: (6-8th grade) Latin American Art
Big Idea:
Places and Culture (People, places, and the environment are reflective in the art.) Students will learn about the diversity of cultures in the art of Latin America.
Rationale and Description of Lesson:
Often, Latin American countries are grouped together under one unit. These countries include parts of North America, Central America, South America, and the Caribbean. Each is diverse in climate, people, culture, and religion. Students will explore two Latin American countries in depth. The first country is Mexico and the second country is the Republic of Panama. Students will be able to work together to identify the similarities and differences. By the end of this unit, a student should be able to recognize distinct characteristics between Latin American cultures and create works of art that expresses their own characteristics.
Essential Questions:
Why do artworks from Latin America (Countries in North America- South of the U.S. - all of Central America, South America and the Caribbean) vary from country to country?
